Fully Functional
Long Island, New York, residents Michael and Carole Sino love spending weekends in Chatham, a picturesque seaside Cape Cod town.

An antique Oriental rug helps delineate the living space and adds a pop of rich color to the soft palette. At the foot of the bed, basket offer easily accessible storage. A long narrow console fills a niche to the right of the fireplace and below the window. Opposite the fireplace, the partial wall separates the sleeping area from the living room, and provides privacy while maintaining the airy vibe. In the sleeping space the Sinos gained storage without sacrificing inches with a platform bed fitted with cubbies. A vignette of driftwood, beach tone and glass float underscore the mariner theme. On the side of the bed, baskets help keeping the small Lobster trap doors function as a headboard, while space saving floating shelves takes place of nightstands. Glass backsplash tiles, a new vanity, a round mirror––that recalls a porthole, make thermal bathroom pretty and comfortable. White cabinets and counters complement the classic cottage style and help make the little home feel more spacious. The front door opens right into the living area and heralds the cottage blue color accents. Installing shelves across the window increased the kitchenette’s storage without blocking the view. Above the fireplace, a framed map of the Cape and a whimsical sculpture pay tribute to the location.
