Synopsis
Company is always welcome at Christine and Jon Curry's Sonoma, California, home 'friends and family have no doubt about that. I love, LOVE having company,' Christine says with genuine enthusiasm. That's why, when she and Jon, a general contractor, renovated a beautiful old barn and made it into their home, they designed and built a companion guest cottage just steps from their back door and the sparkling swimming pool. 'We knew we wanted this to be a complete little retreat with one bedroom and a full kitchen' and overflowing with wonderfulness,' Christine says, laughing. 'So I really focused on ensuring that it's beautiful and appointed with all the necessary creature comforts.'
Plenty of storage ensures that friends and family lack nothing floor-to-ceiling shelves house an abundance of good reads; a built-in sofa abuts the shelves and provides storage below for everything from games to fresh linens and cozy throws; the sofa cushions double as two twin-size mattresses. The use of green building techniques throughout their entire property, such as repurposed floor tiles, sustainably farmed wood, and environmentally friendly milk paint also contributes to the cottage appeal and guests well-being.
