Nesting in Nantucket
With primary living spaces on the second floor, this near-the- beach house ensures views, sunlight and smiles.

A glass-tiles mirror picks up the colors found in the surrounding elements .  Tucked under the eaves, the master bedroom features a vintage wood trunk that came with the house. The couple loved the kitchen’s ocean view and the fact that no remodeling was needed—only a few appliance updates.  A copper folk art whale, which the couple playfully refers to as Horatio Hornblower, keeps watch over the living room. Frosted glass in oceanic colors evoke the coastal setting. Colors and accessories keep the coastal theme present. A painting by local artist David Lazarus inspired the blues and greens used throughout the house.  A seagrass rug serves as a textural anchor for the seating area, which is rounded out with a vintage rocker  Dining area blues repeat from the still life painting. In the cozy living room, a wood burning fireplace provides warmth on chilly days.

Island Gem
An array of whimsical furnishings, dazzling hues and lively patterns make up the prefect Florida beach retreat.

Yellow walls  were just the starting point in the living room’s color palette. A spectrum of watery shades sparkle on the ceiling, woodwork, coffee table and rug. Sea glass and tiny shells glued to the rim of a shade keeps the coastal theme present. A surf shack motif offers a lighthearted blueprint for fun and affordable ideas. Rw wood stools sport a variety of colors and carved the the children initials. The master bedroom features vintage shutters converted into a sliding door using classic barn hardware. Soft hues get a boost from a colorful duvet. Faux painting transformed plain cabinetry into one-of-a-kind kitchen. Walls made of glass panels, called Nana Walls, fold accordion style (here they are fully open) for indoor-outdoor living. The colors are all inspired by Florida's flora and fauna. Glass tile commissioned from a local artist creates a sparkling mural in the main bathroom. Cream-colored ceramic tiles edge a patchwork of hand painted Mexican tiles. Four screen doors and a carved wooden beam were the starting point for the master bath. The staircase leading to the upstairs bedrooms was outfitted with a rainbow of tiles, custom woodwork and coastal art. A modern chest of drawers is transformed into a antique with a multi-layers of paint, paisley swirls, and sunburst motifs.

Colourful Tide
Lollipop hues give this tiny seaside retreat the appeal of a found treasure chest.

Raspberry shades brighten both the dining room wall and kitchen floor for design continuity. She's harvest from the beach line the book shelves. Offering comfort and function, a cozy slipcovered chair stands by a wall-mounted bookcase in a sliver of space. The sofa’s candy-striped upholstery echoes the coats of many colors throughput the house. Red accents in the enamel-top nightstand and striped floor amp up the visual heat. When living on an island sea-worthy books make appropriate accessories From the mid-1700s to the late 1830s, Nantucket was the whaling capital of the world. Showcasing Herman Melville’s Moby Dick couldn’t be more à propos. Groupings in the same color families keep the vibrant palette in focus. In a small home, everything must feed a need but that doesn’t mean they can’t also be pretty, like these colorful enamel dishes or brightly color glassware. A shell covered chandelier pays tribute to the coastal location. A antique bench functions as a coffee table. Multicolor glass candle jars stay in tune with the overall color scheme. The sitting room doubles as a guest room and is furnished with a sleeper sofa dressed in a playful patchwork of fabrics.
Flea market pieces found on the island add local flavor.

Tiny Haven
A tiny getaway near the sea brightens up and lives large for a couple who delight in sharing their 'sweet little sweep-out' with family and friends.

Wicker armchairs ad washable cushions make spell comfort and low maintenance. Aqua- blue accents and black and white accents po pop against white woodwork. Aqua accessories complement the cottahe color scheme. The main sleeping space features and added loft-like space accessible by a ladder. Homeowner Rob and Gayle Macchi.  White rollup shades at windows make this an airy extrabedroom. Hooks and pegs add simple charm all around the house, but they’re also practical, A fish ornament alludes to the waterside location. A coat rack offer streamline storage for hat and bags. The L-shaped front bedroom holds a second twin bed. Sea glass hues peppered the little cottage. Shutters and handmade curtains contribute to the beachy look.

Past Perfect
No detail was too small to bring a neglected 1924 Craftsman bungalow back to life as a celebration of the past and a promising future.

Starfruit garnish adds Florida flavor. Aqua accents speak of waterside location. Accessories in coordinated colors and materials. Similar textures  and colors work well together. Starfish and shells bring the coastal location in. Old heart pine flooring runs throughout the house A vintage bedspread won an iron bed . A country French antique dresser is retrofitted as a vanity. A chandelier with drop crystals bring in some bling, Furniture legs  give the center island the look of freestanding furniture. A pair of ottomans stand in as a coffee table. A vintage fireplace gets a modern makeover. Pastel artwork tempers qua items.

Beach Lodge
Unobstructed views of the blue Pacific enticed Tiffany Caliva to purchase and update a California beach house to use as her family's weekend getaway.

 One of a pair of Indian mirrored bulls. An antique plant stand sprouts easy-care succulents. Color and texture are key to Tiffany's decorating style. A painted stone bust shows signs of wear.  Assorted pillows and throws bring color and texture to the living room. An undulating ceramic planter and shells bring the beach indoors.  Exposed beams, horizontal siding and rows of wall shelves insure a unified look. Everything in the kitchen was chosen with care and is functional. The primary bedroom is punctuated by bright accents.  Two cactus silk pillows  pick up the colors of an old kantha quilt. An oversize mirror break up a solid expanse of wall. A wealth of colorful, decorative details abounds in the guest bedroom. An urn-shaped metal lamp and a tiny brass sailboat grace a bedside table.

Waterside Living
Refreshed with colours borrowed for sky, surf and sand, as dated waterfront properties is bought back to life.

Th Small family enjoy the second floor balcony overlooking the water. Built-in bookshelves keep favorite tomes and a collection of shells neatly organized. Italian glass mosaic tiles set as cabochons between travertine stone pavers echo the wall color in the master bedroom. Raffia baskets keep sunblock and flip-flops within easy reach but out of sight. Blue and white fabrics give the boy's room a nautical mood. The family calls this space Dana and Ramsey's twins are always ready for a beach day. Traditional  style goes bold in the kitchen where white crown and box moldings are offset by lively leaf-green walls. Wherever you look, there is always an element that really waterside living. Here, the surfboard is the star. Colorful paintings and shells imbue very space with island flair. The cabinet's center section has roll-back doors to hide the TV when not in use. The living room embodies the seaside elegance of West Indie style. The hallway welcomes with colors and materials that reflect the location.

On the Waterfront
It is said that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and this holds true where Nikki and Jeff Labelle's home is concerned.

Coral appeals to Nikki for its cultural form and natural beauty. In keeping with the home's main color accent, an aqua chandelier takes center stage above the dining room table. Nikki's penchant for antiques carries into the master bedroom where a vintage mirror was constructed from a salvage frame. The piece rustic finish is balanced by feminine bed linens and a romantic chandelier with aqua pendants. Outfitted with comfortable sofas and chairs, the family room doubles as a reading room. A vintage armoire conceals the T.V in style. The French doors open onto a loggia, the pool and the view of the bay. Borrowing space from a former balcony and enclosing it provided room for a stand-alone tub and an additional dressing area. Marble floors add a touch of luxury and a spa-like mood. Filled with an orchid, starfish and sand dollars, a ceramic container makes a a cultural centerpiece  anywhere it is placed. For the Labelle family, beach walks is a daily tradition Keeping with the white and blue and old and new theme a wooden bucket holding fluffy beach towels stands by a vintage bench--a favorite reading place for 5-year-old Bode. Star fish displayed in a blue vintage scale  evoke the waterside location. Star fish and sand dollars gathered into a large shell act a works of art while echoing the near-by sandy beach and the Gulf of Mexico. Whether on their own or on place  mats, shells and varied shades of blue and aqua are reoccurring motifs in the waterside cottage. Overlooking the Intercoastal waterways the eating area off the kitchen is the family's favorite spot to share their daily meals. Nikki had the cabinets built-in, and she painted the back a soft sky blue to recall the near-by waters and allow her white dishes to stand out. Shells and books about the coast  keep the cottage location in focus throughout the spaces.
