Call of the Wild
Built in the footprint of a classic Western lodge, a California hideaway gets style and substance from wood, stone, and metal details.

A 19th century French oil painting hangs over an equally old sideboard. The fireplace mantel was salvaged from a French country house. Natural materials create an organic vignette. A massive oil jug alludes to the near by olive groves. Every element of the house has an interesting story. Old redwood beams crown the simply yet visually powerful living room. Obtained “as is” in the south of France, tapestry armchairs have a well-worn charm. Mood lighting comes from early 20th century European sconces. Pomegranates and rosemary have fitting rustic feel. An olive oil jug and wooden candlesticks conjure up the Spanish Misssion look. Deep-hued hydrangeas rucked into crock soften the rugged table. 19th century paintings add rich color to the eating area. Demijohns and crockery are country classics.
