Beach Lodge
Unobstructed views of the blue Pacific enticed Tiffany Caliva to purchase and update a California beach house to use as her family's weekend getaway.

African indigo mudcloth, Guatemalan ikat and Turkish pillows bring an exotic vibe. Two cactus silk pillows pick up the colors of an old kantha quilt. Color and texture are key to Tiffany's decorating style. Assorted pillows and throws bring color and texture to the living room. An undulating ceramic planter and shells bring the beach indoors. A pair of framed Indian prints echoes the colors of the bed pillows. Exposed beams, horizontal siding and rows of wall shelves insure a unified look. An urn-shaped metal lamp and a tiny brass sailboat grace a bedside table. The primary bedroom is punctuated by bright accents. A painted stone bust shows signs of wear. An oversize mirror break up a solid expanse of wall. Everything in the kitchen was chosen with care and is functional. An antique plant stand sprouts easy-care succulents.

On the Waterfront
It is said that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and this holds true where Nikki and Jeff Labelle's home is concerned.

Overlooking the Intercoastal waterways the eating area off the kitchen is the family's favorite spot to share their daily meals. Nikki had the cabinets built-in, and she painted the back a soft sky blue to recall the near-by waters and allow her white dishes to stand out. Borrowing space from a former balcony and enclosing it provided room for a stand-alone tub and an additional dressing area. Marble floors add a touch of luxury and a spa-like mood. Filled with an orchid, starfish and sand dollars, a ceramic container makes a a cultural centerpiece anywhere it is placed. In keeping with the home's main color accent, an aqua chandelier takes center stage above the dining room table. Nikki's penchant for antiques carries into the master bedroom where a vintage mirror was constructed from a salvage frame. The piece rustic finish is balanced by feminine bed linens and a romantic chandelier with aqua pendants. In the family room, a wall of windows and double doors allows a the view of the back of the home and the bay beyond. Shells and books about the coast keep the cottage location in focus throughout the spaces. Star fish and sand dollars gathered into a large shell act a works of art while echoing the near-by sandy beach and the Gulf of Mexico. Coral appeals to Nikki for its cultural form and natural beauty. Outfitted with comfortable sofas and chairs, the family room doubles as a reading room. A vintage armoire conceals the T.V in style. The French doors open onto a loggia, the pool and the view of the bay. The completely redone kitchen gave Nikki a chance to come up with the just the right finishes to complement the rest of the house, like the white cabinetry, stainless appliances and blue accents. Star fish displayed in a blue vintage scale evoke the waterside location. For the Labelle family, beach walks is a daily tradition
