Nesting in Nantucket
With primary living spaces on the second floor, this near-the- beach house ensures views, sunlight and smiles.

A copper folk art whale, which the couple playfully refers to as Horatio Hornblower, keeps watch over the living room. A painting by local artist David Lazarus inspired the blues and greens used throughout the house. Tucked under the eaves, the master bedroom features a vintage wood trunk that came with the house. Frosted glass in oceanic colors evoke the coastal setting. In the cozy living room, a wood burning fireplace provides warmth on chilly days. Dining area blues repeat from the still life painting. A seagrass rug serves as a textural anchor for the seating area, which is rounded out with a vintage rocker A glass-tiles mirror picks up the colors found in the surrounding elements . The couple loved the kitchen’s ocean view and the fact that no remodeling was needed—only a few appliance updates. Colors and accessories keep the coastal theme present.

Island Gem
An array of whimsical furnishings, dazzling hues and lively patterns make up the prefect Florida beach retreat.

Glass tile commissioned from a local artist creates a sparkling mural in the main bathroom. A barely there glass shower and a window let in the view to the beach. Folding chairs are upholstered in a myriad of tribal patterns. Four screen doors and a carved wooden beam were the starting point for the master bath. Walls made of glass panels, called Nana Walls, fold accordion style (here they are fully open) for indoor-outdoor living. The colors are all inspired by Florida's flora and fauna. The master bedroom features vintage shutters converted into a sliding door using classic barn hardware. A modern chest of drawers is transformed into a antique with a multi-layers of paint, paisley swirls, and sunburst motifs. Coastal motifs are always part of the decor at the beach house. Hand painted by a local artist, this table is a real catch. Yellow walls were just the starting point in the living room’s color palette. A spectrum of watery shades sparkle on the ceiling, woodwork, coffee table and rug. Sea glass and tiny shells glued to the rim of a shade keeps the coastal theme present. From the posts to the wood top and trim salvaged elements were united to create the unique island. Rw wood stools sport a variety of colors and carved the the children initials.

Colourful Tide
Lollipop hues give this tiny seaside retreat the appeal of a found treasure chest.

Yellow walls and ceiling wrap the bed and bath suite in sunshine. Old photographs and postcards casually hung with clothespins from a line epitomize the beach house lifestyle. Red accents in the enamel-top nightstand and striped floor amp up the visual heat. Raspberry shades brighten both the dining room wall and kitchen floor for design continuity. On the door to the den bold aqua and bright yellow accents contrast with the lobster-hued wall and the mustard color of the floor. A antique bench functions as a coffee table. Multicolor glass candle jars stay in tune with the overall color scheme. From the mid-1700s to the late 1830s, Nantucket was the whaling capital of the world. Showcasing Herman Melville’s Moby Dick couldn’t be more à propos. The sofa’s candy-striped upholstery echoes the coats of many colors throughput the house. When living on an island sea-worthy books make appropriate accessories In a small home, everything must feed a need but that doesn’t mean they can’t also be pretty, like these colorful enamel dishes or brightly color glassware.

Tiny Haven
A tiny getaway near the sea brightens up and lives large for a couple who delight in sharing their 'sweet little sweep-out' with family and friends.

Aqua- blue accents and black and white accents po pop against white woodwork. Sea glass hues peppered the little cottage. Shutters and handmade curtains contribute to the beachy look. Aqua accessories complement the cottahe color scheme. The L-shaped front bedroom holds a second twin bed. A fish ornament alludes to the waterside location. Wicker armchairs ad washable cushions make spell comfort and low maintenance.
