Nesting in Nantucket
With primary living spaces on the second floor, this near-the- beach house ensures views, sunlight and smiles.

Colors and accessories keep the coastal theme present. A painting by local artist David Lazarus inspired the blues and greens used throughout the house. A glass-tiles mirror picks up the colors found in the surrounding elements . The couple loved the kitchen’s ocean view and the fact that no remodeling was needed—only a few appliance updates.  A seagrass rug serves as a textural anchor for the seating area, which is rounded out with a vintage rocker Frosted glass in oceanic colors evoke the coastal setting.  Dining area blues repeat from the still life painting.  Tucked under the eaves, the master bedroom features a vintage wood trunk that came with the house. In the cozy living room, a wood burning fireplace provides warmth on chilly days.  A copper folk art whale, which the couple playfully refers to as Horatio Hornblower, keeps watch over the living room.

Island Gem
An array of whimsical furnishings, dazzling hues and lively patterns make up the prefect Florida beach retreat.

The master bedroom features vintage shutters converted into a sliding door using classic barn hardware. Glass tile commissioned from a local artist creates a sparkling mural in the main bathroom.  For her eldest son, Kandy conjured a funky, old Florida feel that starts with reclaimed cypress paneling. Folding chairs are upholstered in a myriad of tribal patterns. Walls made of glass panels, called Nana Walls, fold accordion style (here they are fully open) for indoor-outdoor living. The colors are all inspired by Florida's flora and fauna. A surf shack motif offers a lighthearted blueprint for fun and affordable ideas. Cream-colored ceramic tiles edge a patchwork of hand painted Mexican tiles. Hand painted by a local artist, this table is a real catch. A barely there glass shower and a window let in the view to the beach. Sea glass and tiny shells glued to the rim of a shade keeps the coastal theme present. The staircase leading to the upstairs bedrooms was outfitted with a rainbow of tiles, custom woodwork and coastal art. Yellow walls  were just the starting point in the living room’s color palette. A spectrum of watery shades sparkle on the ceiling, woodwork, coffee table and rug. Rw wood stools sport a variety of colors and carved the the children initials.

Colourful Tide
Lollipop hues give this tiny seaside retreat the appeal of a found treasure chest.

The sitting room doubles as a guest room and is furnished with a sleeper sofa dressed in a playful patchwork of fabrics.
Groupings in the same color families keep the vibrant palette in focus. In a small home, everything must feed a need but that doesn’t mean they can’t also be pretty, like these colorful enamel dishes or brightly color glassware. Red accents in the enamel-top nightstand and striped floor amp up the visual heat. She's harvest from the beach line the book shelves. Flea market pieces found on the island add local flavor. Raspberry shades brighten both the dining room wall and kitchen floor for design continuity. Yellow walls and ceiling wrap the bed and bath suite in sunshine. Old photographs and postcards casually hung with clothespins from a line epitomize the beach house lifestyle. The sofa’s candy-striped upholstery echoes the coats of many colors throughput the house. A shell covered chandelier pays tribute to the coastal location. From the mid-1700s to the late 1830s, Nantucket was the whaling capital of the world. Showcasing Herman Melville’s Moby Dick couldn’t be more à propos. Offering comfort and function, a cozy slipcovered chair stands by a wall-mounted bookcase in a sliver of space.

Tiny Haven
A tiny getaway near the sea brightens up and lives large for a couple who delight in sharing their 'sweet little sweep-out' with family and friends.

A coat rack offer streamline storage for hat and bags. Aqua accessories complement the cottahe color scheme. A fish ornament alludes to the waterside location.  White rollup shades at windows make this an airy extrabedroom. Homeowner Rob and Gayle Macchi. Hooks and pegs add simple charm all around the house, but they’re also practical, Sea glass hues peppered the little cottage. Aqua- blue accents and black and white accents po pop against white woodwork. Wicker armchairs ad washable cushions make spell comfort and low maintenance. The L-shaped front bedroom holds a second twin bed. The main sleeping space features and added loft-like space accessible by a ladder. Shutters and handmade curtains contribute to the beachy look.

Past Perfect
No detail was too small to bring a neglected 1924 Craftsman bungalow back to life as a celebration of the past and a promising future.

A country French antique dresser is retrofitted as a vanity. Aqua accents speak of waterside location. Starfruit garnish adds Florida flavor. Furniture legs  give the center island the look of freestanding furniture. A vintage fireplace gets a modern makeover. A vintage bedspread won an iron bed . Accessories in coordinated colors and materials. Old heart pine flooring runs throughout the house A chandelier with drop crystals bring in some bling, A pair of ottomans stand in as a coffee table. Pastel artwork tempers qua items. Starfish and shells bring the coastal location in. Similar textures  and colors work well together.
