Synopsis
Since the 1980s, when the mania for barn homes took root in the British countryside, a combination of lax planning and inept design has resulted in a rash of clunky constructions marred by icily-cavernous interiors, twee casement windows and, worse still, the ubiquitous cartwheel by the front door.
