Synopsis
We were looking in this village because of the school catchment area and as serial renovators wanted something old with a big garden that we could do up. This house was perfect; originally a two-up, two down it had been extended four times although not always very logically, and didn’t appear to have changed much since the 1970's which was bliss because it meant they still had the old wallpaper and lots of retro items which was one of the main reasons we wanted it. But there were lots of things that didn’t work for us, such as the weird, suspended office-style ceilings with polystyrene tiles, the carpets, which we ripped up before we moved in, and the back extension which had partly wooden walls, no heating and a flat roof.
