Synopsis
One bedroom cottage in Padstow, refurbished by Jill Stein, former wife of chef Rick Stein.
Jill is still very much part of the business, overseeing the interior design of the restaurants and the guest accommodation. She turned the cottage layout upside down so that the living room and kitchen, now on the first floor benefit from the view towards the Camel Estuary at the front and the minimalist paved garden at the rear.
The living room ceiling was removed creating a dramatic loft-like space, which is simply furnished yet extremely comfortable. The bedroom, now on the ground floor with its welcoming wood-burning stove leads through to the bathroom. Having done lots of hotel bathrooms, Jill knows how to get the look. Shower on one side of the central partition, bath on the other with skylight above.
The cottage is Jill's Padstow pied a terre - she lives a few miles down the coast.
