Synopsis
These days so much importance is placed on family-friendly homes that busy parents sometimes lack grown-up spaces. So when Clare and Chris Clark bought their Victorian house - their children are 4 and 6 - they decided to redress that balance. "The children sleep on the top floor, so in our first-floor bedroom and bathroom we wanted to create an adult oasis of calm," says Clare, who is a novelist working from home. Her first book, The Great Stink (published by Penguin) came out in 2005, and her latest, The Nature of Monsters, is out this year (Viking).
