Buying her first home, a one bed flat in a converted factory, gave Jessie Chorley the opportunity to let loose with colour and texture and add plenty of individual style to a bland interior.

Synopsis
‘The flats in the building all started out the same, with wooden floors, pale walls and functional white kitchen units. That’s just not me, I need dramatic bursts of colour, lots of pattern and texture and inspiring things around me, so I set to work. I started by painting the kitchen, hallway and bathroom walls a deep green. The kitchen and bathroom are internal rooms so I’d rather have them dark and cosy. The door to the bedroom is bright yellow and rather than carpet, I painted all the floors white. Then I started adding in my collection of old furniture and artwork, textiles and important pieces I’ve worked on. My favourite part: It’s the huge windows in the living room and the light. It’s the thing that hits you when you walk in the door. The living room’s at the back of the flat, away from a main road, so it’s incredibly peaceful and a great place to design and sew, sitting at the table under the window.
