Synopsis
Building this modern summerhouse among the pines on a tiny island in the Finnish archipelago has been a labour of love for Anu and Andrew Shaw and their two young girls. The property, which is located on Själö, a remote island in the outer Finnish archipelago, is 30 miles from the mainland and reached only by boat or the tiny local car ferry, which visits the island daily. Going back to the basics – no television, no internet – enables the family and their friends to appreciate simple pleasures such as invigorating dips from the jetty, gathering the wild mushrooms that grow in abundance in autumn, or feeding the lambs that are reared on one of the island’s two smallholdings.
