Achter de Duinen

Hidden behind dune grass lays the farm of Martine ‘Behind the Dunes’. In the garden, the rabbits jump freely. Like an oasis of peace, that's how Martine describes her own house annex/holiday home.

Synopsis
When Martine was searching for a new place to live, she knew immediately that she would buy this house, even before she’d seen the inside of the building. “I saw immediately what I could make of it, how it would look. The renovation was a lot of work. The building was an old farm rebuilt after the first war. The toilet was outside, just a hole in a piece of wood”, says Martine. First, the house was renovated. Under a false ceiling, the wooden construction was hidden. I only had to clean the wood with terpentine.” In the kitchen were these cement tiles on sand and I reused them, after cleaning but then back for the new kitchen floor. Inside, Martine choose a lot of natural materials. “I like to use wood. I painted it white, inside and outside. Lots of white paints was used for this project”; she explains.
