Synopsis
I had always been a fan of period properties and, coming from a farming background, wanted to live in the country, so to find a cottage with a garden in a pretty village was perfect! It had been a holiday home and stood empty for a while, so the garden was a wilderness and everything looked a bit tired and dated, but we loved it. It was the perfect size for the two of us and we quickly worked out what we needed to do to make it our own. The first job was to take up the old carpets and lay reclaimed floorboards throughout, then decorate everywhere in a light cream colour. The effect was amazing. It went from looking quite dark and dated to really light and modern.
