The Hacienda

A dilapidated worker's cottage on a sprawling farm at the foot of the historic Hermitage Valley in the Western Cape was transformed into a welcoming abode arranged around a courtyard that capitalises on sweeping mountain views.

Synopsis
Designed by Marilouise van der Merwe and her husband, Jacques as a retreat with barefoot luxury in mind for family, friends and visiting guests, the existing structure was reimagined by employing clever and cost-effective ideas. Salvaged materials were used in the build while the effortlessly stylish interior features antiques and vintage pieces, sourced from roadside pedlars, second-hand stores and reclamation sites.
