Synopsis
When Renee Werner first set eyes on the Greek Revival building located on St. Mary Street in the Lower Garden neighborhood of New Orleans, it was nothing but a facade with evidence of the building's footprint and an overgrown lot. That was way back in the days when the area was not desirable even though it's a mere 20-minute walk to the French Quarter on charming streets punctuated with squares. 'People thought I was crazy for buying it,' recalls Renee with a laugh. There had been a devastating fire that left the house as a mere shell. But Renee was determined to transform it. Renee dubbed the house St. Mary for its location, and it has been a hub of activity ever since, especially now that the neighborhood is chic.
