The Passionate Collector
The first thing you noticed in Bridget Schwartz's Oakland, California, apartment is its playful mix of colors. The living room is painted lavender, the dining room mint green, and the bedroom a rosy pink. All are decorated with vibrant furnishings.

Inspire by travels of yore, a brass-clad trunk adds a touch of glamour and stylish storage. In the bedroom, an antique Chinese armoire is paired with a vintage armchair topped with a nod pillow.
Silver and turquoise candlesticks perch on a carved sideboard Bridget brought back from a trip to Goa in western India. An armoire carved and pained in India provides a much-needed closet In Bridget's 800-square-foot home. The galley kitchen offers a loosely defined retro vibe. A brass mushroom lamp sits atop a chinoiserie chest used as a bedside table and for storage. Bridget's crocheted wall hanging grows organically from the materials she works with. Kitties, Hershey, a Ragdoll, and Minky, a Persian, appreciate Bridget's fondness for comfy chairs and balls f yarn Carved African mask and a quirky painted portrait hang over a continental bombé dresser. A pink, turquoise and red palette infuses romance into the bright and airy bedroom. A pair of 1980s mohair chairs stands out against the lavender walls. A burled-wood bar by midcentury-modern master  designer Milo Baughman makes a dramatic statement, while connecting the living and dining rooms. A chaise lounge, upholstered in fabric from Jaipur, and a desk provide a den-like space for working and relaxing.

Feeling Groovy
This Tennessee cottage combines living space and free-spirited guest quarters under one roof.

A mandala tapestry and star light have a bohemian vibe. The living room features an original wood burning fireplace.Using a piece of plywood and black tape, Savannah channeled a Navarho when artwork. The remodeled kitchen now offers a breakfast nook. On the second floor landing, an extra sleeping area was created by adding a wall. No two pillows match, yet the overall living room has has a fine gypsy vibe. A tapestry, gauzy fabric and a star light fixture create dreamy canopy. Savannah and Casey embrace brilliant colors throughout their home. Against a black wall, a tiger-maple hutch takes on a jewel-like glow. Blue and green accessories set the tone for the bedroom. A tiered hanging vegetable basket is repurposed as a plant holder.
Geometric shapes unite a gallery wall of favorite items. A try-level glass and metal coffee table provides lots of storage but is visually invisible. Hung from the ceiling, white mesh fabric and vintage fringed shawls create a canopy in the guest bedroom.

Artist in Residence
Noted tatie designer Jennifer Paganelli turns the rooms of her Connecticut farmhouse into sweet, sensational eye candy!

Jennifer serves up less eye-popping pattern in the dining room so that her favorite collection— watery blue glassware— can steal the scene. Blue accessories steal the scene.  In the master bedroom, tone-on-tone damasks offerS a soft layer without detracting from the showcase fabrics. White walls and trim, along with white lacquered vintage furniture, set the stage for fabrics with classic motifs and saturated  color. In vases and on textiles, flowers grace Jennifer's rooms. Jennifer works with colors three have a similar energy level––the same brightness. Textile designer Jennifer Paganelli and her best friend. Pretty details, like the lampshade and vase are always part of Jennifer's decorating touches. Jennifer and her daughter Katie. An armoire hod some fo Jennifers fabrics and designs, which are sold all over the world. Much of the home’s art is by Pennsylvania German folk artist Barbara Strawser. Her art enhances watercolors that blend with— and sometimes inspire—a room’s palette. Five years after they moved in, Jennifer and Peter renovated to open up the cramped kitchen. Patterns and colors unite harmoniously.

Nesting in Nantucket
With primary living spaces on the second floor, this near-the- beach house ensures views, sunlight and smiles.

A painting by local artist David Lazarus inspired the blues and greens used throughout the house.  A seagrass rug serves as a textural anchor for the seating area, which is rounded out with a vintage rocker The couple loved the kitchen’s ocean view and the fact that no remodeling was needed—only a few appliance updates. Frosted glass in oceanic colors evoke the coastal setting. Colors and accessories keep the coastal theme present.  Dining area blues repeat from the still life painting. In the cozy living room, a wood burning fireplace provides warmth on chilly days.  Tucked under the eaves, the master bedroom features a vintage wood trunk that came with the house.  A copper folk art whale, which the couple playfully refers to as Horatio Hornblower, keeps watch over the living room. A glass-tiles mirror picks up the colors found in the surrounding elements .

Good Vibrations
Eclectic finds and a flair for the exotic give a Gulf Coast cottage its well-travelled allure.

The weathered dining room table is given a face-lift with an embroidered sari laid atop a white cotton sheet. Vintage silverware and an etched-glass carafe are fitting for the stylish yet simple table setting. Nina turned the enclosed porch into a cozy sitting room complete with a sofa draped in gauzy netting. A streamlined bench offers instant and practical storage for a small space. A wall of glass blocks between the vintage tub and the shower provides privacy. Nina's soulful personality comes through in spaces with a calming and welcoming energy.
A cut-glass aqua lantern adds a touch of intrigue and complements the color scheme.  Nature comes in via giant leaves gathered from the garden.  Nina chose a soothing palette and artwork that are gentle on the eye and psyche. Fresh flowers and fruit are staples of Nina’s lifestyle. Fresh flowers and curated accents epitomize Nina’s unique way of uniting textures and styles. Homeowner Nina and her rescued dog and BFF Yeshi.

Island Gem
An array of whimsical furnishings, dazzling hues and lively patterns make up the prefect Florida beach retreat.

Faux painting transformed plain cabinetry into one-of-a-kind kitchen. A barely there glass shower and a window let in the view to the beach. Rw wood stools sport a variety of colors and carved the the children initials. Cream-colored ceramic tiles edge a patchwork of hand painted Mexican tiles. Folding chairs are upholstered in a myriad of tribal patterns. Walls made of glass panels, called Nana Walls, fold accordion style (here they are fully open) for indoor-outdoor living. The colors are all inspired by Florida's flora and fauna.  For her eldest son, Kandy conjured a funky, old Florida feel that starts with reclaimed cypress paneling. Yellow walls  were just the starting point in the living room’s color palette. A spectrum of watery shades sparkle on the ceiling, woodwork, coffee table and rug. Sea glass and tiny shells glued to the rim of a shade keeps the coastal theme present. An irons and porcelain chandelier crowns the master bedroom. From the posts to the wood top and trim salvaged elements were united to create the unique island. A modern chest of drawers is transformed into a antique with a multi-layers of paint, paisley swirls, and sunburst motifs. Soft hues get a boost from a colorful duvet.

Colourful Tide
Lollipop hues give this tiny seaside retreat the appeal of a found treasure chest.

Flea market pieces found on the island add local flavor. When living on an island sea-worthy books make appropriate accessories Yellow walls and ceiling wrap the bed and bath suite in sunshine. A antique bench functions as a coffee table. Multicolor glass candle jars stay in tune with the overall color scheme. On the door to the den bold aqua and bright yellow accents contrast with the lobster-hued wall and the mustard color of the floor. Offering comfort and function, a cozy slipcovered chair stands by a wall-mounted bookcase in a sliver of space. The interiors boast a kaleidoscope of patterns and color shifts. Light-toned ceilings soften the brilliant shades and visually raise the height. From the mid-1700s to the late 1830s, Nantucket was the whaling capital of the world. Showcasing Herman Melville’s Moby Dick couldn’t be more à propos. Groupings in the same color families keep the vibrant palette in focus. Color and whimsy liven up a weathered vintage table. A shell covered chandelier pays tribute to the coastal location. She's harvest from the beach line the book shelves. Red accents in the enamel-top nightstand and striped floor amp up the visual heat.

Patterns of Behaviour
Its' all in a day's work for a decorative artist who fills her home with colorful stencil projects and global goods.

Stenciled work highlights  vintage chandelier. Gold is the common thread in this bedroom corner. The side table is currently white but is always changing based on Debbie's artistic inspiration. A beaded horse keeps watch over a handmade platter and glass floats. A century-old European cabinet with the original finish is given pride of place in the living room. A playful mix of textiles in a limited but effective color way of blues and greens. Teal velvet adds panache to a vintage wicker armchair. The silver sequin basket was found on a trip to Marrakech. Metallic finishes transform an old dresser into a unique vanity. Gold paint unifies a flea market frame and a new letter H one a reclaimed mantel. Salvaged columns ad visual interest and height. Bed with teal duvet, silk pillows and Mongolian lam throw. Necklaces, pottery, and a bottle from Marrakech sum up Debbie's local-meets-global style. A small garden table holds items in the same color family. Debbie transformed a store fixture with paint, metal mesh panels and handcrafted knobs.

Tropical Oasis
Withs colourful exterior, Key West-style architecture and it's tropical foliage, it's hard to miss the hideaway of East Coast designer and now full-time Florida resident Michele Mancini.

Unique lamps, animal prints and floral textiles give the living room its cozy tropical feel. With its fruit-color walls and trim the kitchen sizzles Antique frames showcase swatches of Michele's nostalgic designs. McCoy vases hold greenery collected from the garden. The key to Michael's successful decorating strategy lies in her well-balanced imaginative arrangements, The narrow kitchen offers a convenient breakfast bar \. Hula figurines and tropical flowers and fabrics recall Havana and Hawaii. 
Only the bedroom shows more restraint with its subdued palette.

No detail was too small to bring a neglected 1924 Craftsman bungalow back to life as a celebration of the past and a promising future.

Aqua accents speak of waterside location. A pair of ottomans stand in as a coffee table. Starfish and shells bring the coastal location in. Starfruit garnish adds Florida flavor. Accessories in coordinated colors and materials. A chandelier with drop crystals bring in some bling, A vintage bedspread won an iron bed . Old heart pine flooring runs throughout the house A vintage fireplace gets a modern makeover. Pastel artwork tempers qua items. Furniture legs  give the center island the look of freestanding furniture. A country French antique dresser is retrofitted as a vanity. Similar textures  and colors work well together.
