Mediterranean Rendition
Textural finishes, vibrant colours and distinctive fabrics bring the spirit of Provence to a Florida home.

Hand painted dishes are used daily \. A reproduction monastery table is topped with a repurposed door. The color of the bed linens are reflected around the room in coppery hexagon Saltillo floor tiles, paintings, and other decorative accents Sunflowers bring home the Provence countryside. Chunky factory thread spools used as knobs distinguish a refinished chest of drawers. A vintage Jim Beam bottle with a man on a horse on the label sits on the bar alongside a painting of a farmhouse in the South of France. A baptismal fount from a European chapel is put to service in the guest bathroom. A tangle of grapevine clippings gathered in a braided basket create an organic centerpiece. Treasures displayed in a wire-front cabinet include vintage sunflower cups and saucers, mustard jars, Italian and French jugs and pots infuse the kitchen with Mediterranean vibe. A carved limestone fireplace, a crystal chandelier, and two settees piled with silk pillows create a dramatic first impression. An old tree branch is fitted with a corkscrew. A rustic Spanish chandelier illuminates a kitchen designed for cooking ease.

La Dolce Vita
A chef falls for the rustic elegance and old-world heart of a historic Florida home and fills it with the welcoming comfort of his native Italy.

With its warm tones, plaster walls, stones, bricks and tiles, the kitchen is a study in Tuscan style. A painting of coral hibiscus in a gilded frame reflects the local flora while echoing the room's dramatic color. A bouquet of sunflowers brings home the sun-drenched Italian countryside. Golden walls and an arched opening elegantly frame the entrance to the living room. Flanked by jeweled-color votives, a one-of-a kind antique Italian brass clock presides over the carved stone mantel. Handcrafted Italian pitchers and plates share the limelight with ruby red glasses.  A pair of gilded chairs upholstered in luxurious vintage silk and honey-toned drapes foster a sense of opulence. Silky fabrics in coordinating colors unite pillows of disparate shapes and patterns. From cookbooks to homemade treats, chef Maurizio is devoted to authenticity. Adding to the kitchen’s rusticity, a hood encased in tiles and bricks tops the professional-grade stove and adds noteworthy character.

The Passionate Collector
The first thing you noticed in Bridget Schwartz's Oakland, California, apartment is its playful mix of colors. The living room is painted lavender, the dining room mint green, and the bedroom a rosy pink. All are decorated with vibrant furnishings.

A burled-wood bar by midcentury-modern master  designer Milo Baughman makes a dramatic statement, while connecting the living and dining rooms. In the bedroom, an antique Chinese armoire is paired with a vintage armchair topped with a nod pillow.
A vintage, hammered-copper pitcher makes a fitting vase. Carved African mask and a quirky painted portrait hang over a continental bombé dresser. To balance the lavender walls and yellow sofa, Bridget uses rich blues and dark reds. In the hallway, a rare1960s poster, titled Vintage metal-frame chairs have been reupholstered in green velvet and ikat fabric. A mid-century modern tulip tape sits under and Italian chandelier. The galley kitchen offers a loosely defined retro vibe. Kitties, Hershey, a Ragdoll, and Minky, a Persian, appreciate Bridget's fondness for comfy chairs and balls f yarn Lacework, solid crochet, wrapped yarn, and tassels memorialize Bridget's pst relationship. The Chinese bamboo armoire is covered with an Oriental print. A brass mushroom lamp sits atop a chinoiserie chest used as a bedside table and for storage. A chaise lounge, upholstered in fabric from Jaipur, and a desk provide a den-like space for working and relaxing.

Feeling Groovy
This Tennessee cottage combines living space and free-spirited guest quarters under one roof.

Against a black wall, a tiger-maple hutch takes on a jewel-like glow. Geometric shapes unite a gallery wall of favorite items. A decorative animal skull watches over the Navaho artwork created by Savanah. Homeowners Casey and Savannah, best friends and bloggers, with their pup Hazel. A mandala tapestry and star light have a bohemian vibe. The remodeled kitchen now offers a breakfast nook. A large-scale leafy duvet set and a low rattan table bring a a tropical vibe to the bedroom. On the second floor landing, an extra sleeping area was created by adding a wall. No two pillows match, yet the overall living room has has a fine gypsy vibe. The ceramic chieftain head was just too good to pass up. Savannah and Casey embrace brilliant colors throughout their home. Hung from the ceiling, white mesh fabric and vintage fringed shawls create a canopy in the guest bedroom. A tapestry, gauzy fabric and a star light fixture create dreamy canopy.

Artist in Residence
Noted tatie designer Jennifer Paganelli turns the rooms of her Connecticut farmhouse into sweet, sensational eye candy!

White walls and trim, along with white lacquered vintage furniture, set the stage for fabrics with classic motifs and saturated  color. In vases and on textiles, flowers grace Jennifer's rooms. Pretty details, like the lampshade and vase are always part of Jennifer's decorating touches. Jennifer's own fabric decorate even space of her home. An armoire hod some fo Jennifers fabrics and designs, which are sold all over the world. Much of the home’s art is by Pennsylvania German folk artist Barbara Strawser. Her art enhances watercolors that blend with— and sometimes inspire—a room’s palette. The guest bedroom is also a room for experimenting with fabric combinations and sometimes for photographing Jennifer’s books and projects. Jennifer and her daughter Katie. Patterns and colors unite harmoniously. To top off a curvy French headboard, Jennifer created a garden inspired canopy by hanging a double-sided fabric panel over a ceiling mounted, 18-inch pole.  Playful accents join fabrics in pumped up pastels. Sunny yellow walls wrap it all up. Jennifer works with colors three have a similar energy level––the same brightness.  In the master bedroom, tone-on-tone damasks offerS a soft layer without detracting from the showcase fabrics.

Nesting in Nantucket
With primary living spaces on the second floor, this near-the- beach house ensures views, sunlight and smiles.

Colors and accessories keep the coastal theme present.  Tucked under the eaves, the master bedroom features a vintage wood trunk that came with the house. The couple loved the kitchen’s ocean view and the fact that no remodeling was needed—only a few appliance updates. A painting by local artist David Lazarus inspired the blues and greens used throughout the house. In the cozy living room, a wood burning fireplace provides warmth on chilly days.  A copper folk art whale, which the couple playfully refers to as Horatio Hornblower, keeps watch over the living room.  A seagrass rug serves as a textural anchor for the seating area, which is rounded out with a vintage rocker  Dining area blues repeat from the still life painting. A glass-tiles mirror picks up the colors found in the surrounding elements . Frosted glass in oceanic colors evoke the coastal setting.

Good Vibrations
Eclectic finds and a flair for the exotic give a Gulf Coast cottage its well-travelled allure.

 Nina chose a soothing palette and artwork that are gentle on the eye and psyche. The floor is painted a cerulean blue to further enhance the kitchen’s friendly laid-back style. Nina turned the enclosed porch into a cozy sitting room complete with a sofa draped in gauzy netting. A cut-glass aqua lantern adds a touch of intrigue and complements the color scheme. Fresh flowers and fruit are staples of Nina’s lifestyle. Nina's soulful personality comes through in spaces with a calming and welcoming energy.
Fresh flowers and curated accents epitomize Nina’s unique way of uniting textures and styles. A streamlined bench offers instant and practical storage for a small space. A silver bowl reflects the intricate embroideries of a sari layered over the tablecloth. Nina’s knack for mixing patterns and textures is evident on the open shelves. Fully Functional
Long Island, New York, residents Michael and Carole Sino love spending weekends in Chatham, a picturesque seaside Cape Cod town.

Above the fireplace, a framed map of the Cape and a whimsical sculpture pay tribute to the location. A long narrow console fills a niche to the right of the fireplace and below the window. An antique Oriental rug helps delineate the living space and adds a pop of rich color to the soft palette. In the sleeping space the Sinos gained storage without sacrificing inches with a platform bed fitted with cubbies. Opposite the fireplace, the partial wall separates the sleeping area from the living room, and provides privacy while maintaining the airy vibe. A vignette of driftwood, beach tone and glass float underscore the mariner theme. The open space includes the living room, kitchen an eating area. Installing shelves across the window increased the kitchenette’s storage without blocking the view. Glass backsplash tiles, a new vanity, a round mirror––that recalls a porthole, make thermal bathroom pretty and comfortable. On the side of the bed, baskets help keeping the small At the foot of the bed, basket offer easily accessible storage. A deep plate rail and hooks add architecture, plus display space for basket storage and favorite finds. White cabinets and counters complement the classic cottage style and help make the little home feel more spacious.

Island Gem
An array of whimsical furnishings, dazzling hues and lively patterns make up the prefect Florida beach retreat.

Faux painting transformed plain cabinetry into one-of-a-kind kitchen.  For her eldest son, Kandy conjured a funky, old Florida feel that starts with reclaimed cypress paneling. A modern chest of drawers is transformed into a antique with a multi-layers of paint, paisley swirls, and sunburst motifs. Walls made of glass panels, called Nana Walls, fold accordion style (here they are fully open) for indoor-outdoor living. The colors are all inspired by Florida's flora and fauna. Soft hues get a boost from a colorful duvet. The master bedroom features vintage shutters converted into a sliding door using classic barn hardware. Coastal motifs are always part of the decor at the beach house. A barely there glass shower and a window let in the view to the beach. Yellow walls  were just the starting point in the living room’s color palette. A spectrum of watery shades sparkle on the ceiling, woodwork, coffee table and rug. The staircase leading to the upstairs bedrooms was outfitted with a rainbow of tiles, custom woodwork and coastal art. The surrounding nature is the inspiration for the decor. Hand painted by a local artist, this table is a real catch. Folding chairs are upholstered in a myriad of tribal patterns.

Colourful Tide
Lollipop hues give this tiny seaside retreat the appeal of a found treasure chest.

The sofa’s candy-striped upholstery echoes the coats of many colors throughput the house. Red accents in the enamel-top nightstand and striped floor amp up the visual heat. Offering comfort and function, a cozy slipcovered chair stands by a wall-mounted bookcase in a sliver of space. In a small home, everything must feed a need but that doesn’t mean they can’t also be pretty, like these colorful enamel dishes or brightly color glassware. When living on an island sea-worthy books make appropriate accessories Groupings in the same color families keep the vibrant palette in focus. A antique bench functions as a coffee table. Multicolor glass candle jars stay in tune with the overall color scheme. Raspberry shades brighten both the dining room wall and kitchen floor for design continuity. The sitting room doubles as a guest room and is furnished with a sleeper sofa dressed in a playful patchwork of fabrics.
She's harvest from the beach line the book shelves. On the door to the den bold aqua and bright yellow accents contrast with the lobster-hued wall and the mustard color of the floor. Color and whimsy liven up a weathered vintage table. Old photographs and postcards casually hung with clothespins from a line epitomize the beach house lifestyle.
