The Corner

This quintessential cottage probably started life in the early 18th century as a humble one-up, one-down dwelling but it was then extended a number of times, twice by the illustrious architect Sir Edwin Lutyens.

Synopsis
By the time retired interior designer Sally Paget-Brown took it on, the building was crying out for attention. ‘The heating was non-existent and the cottage had all sorts of problems, from damp to wood rot,’ she recalls. Working with her trusted team of craftsmen, Sally has sensitively restored it, using gentle colours and floral fabrics that nod to the beauty of the garden outside. For Sally, it was a joy to bring this tired cottage back to life – and to become part of the local community. ’I feel that both the house and the village have embraced me,’ she says.
