Synopsis
What started as a substantial loft conversion turned into a four-year labour of love for Susan and Joe Wild, when they decided to renovate a former chicken farmer’s bungalow in Kent. ‘We wanted more light and space and were granted planning permission to completely revamp the layout and style of the property with new roof lines and an exterior facelift,’ said Susan. Influenced by international travels, bargain finds and a tight budget, Susan and Joe have created a ‘house within a house’, building a Colonial-style clapper-board exterior round the original walls and new veranda overlooking their five acres of land. They have raised the ceiling heights, converted the roof space and designed rooms around reclaimed finds rather than make the items fit the room.
