Synopsis
The need for more space is the common reason that prompts many families to look for a new home and with a house full of teenagers, it became a priority for Steve and Claire Bloom, who are both kitchen designers, ‘Our old house was lovely, but we simply outgrew it,’ recalls Steve, ‘We viewed a 1980s property that, from the estate agent’s details, seemed rather ugly and uninspiring, but were surprised when we all immediately warmed to it and began visualising how we could alter it.’
A deal was struck as Steve put forward a low offer which was quickly accepted, ‘Our priority was to push through planning permission for a single storey extension to be built on top of an existing extension,’ Steve explains, ‘but on examination we discovered that there were no foundations under the extension, so we had to underpin it in order to build above it.’
