Sophie Field

This four bedroom, brick and flint cottage dates back to the 18th century. Owners Sophie Field and her partner Rowland Johone-Smith bought it in 2009, seduced by its “higgledy piggledy” charm.

Synopsis
Now a mid-terrace property, it had once been two houses and was in a bad state of repair. The two bathrooms were stripped out and the kitchen rebuilt to Sophie’s design. There were no straight lines or true right angles in the rooms, so the couple took careful measurements with them when buying furniture. They raided antiques shops and contacted local craftspeople in order to seek out the type of rustic pieces that the cottage dictated. And they managed to have the place ready for their self-imposed deadline of Christmas.
