Synopsis
Along the banks of the River Loire, near to Meung sur Loire, lies a charming farmstead, Le Roquelin, and ‘remarkable’ garden. Together, husband and wife team, Aline and Stephen Chassine, have inspiringly renovated this 16th century, dilapidated farm plot to create a unique dwelling for their family and accompanying menagerie. ‘We wanted to move from our modern Orleans apartment, to the countryside, Stephane to create a magnificent garden and me, my dream home.’’ explains Aline, who stumbled across the near derelict property, deserted by its last elderly inhabitant who lived in just one room. ‘The upper loft floor was sealed off and the kitchen and the bathroom were occupied by animals.’ laughs Aline, who retained an original wooden manger which crosses the new bathroom.
