Synopsis
The former public house on a corner site was perfect for his expanding antique fireplace business, whilst the floors above provided an opportunity to create an elegant and airy “above shop” home.  It has been a labour of love for Owen, who slowly renovated what was an uninhabitable wreck, living at first in just one room and a bathroom.  Today, his expansive and airy home, flooded with light and with a gloriously verdant roof terrace, is a calm retreat from the now buzzing Shoreditch streets. The sensitive restoration was an organic, room by room process and balances age worn surfaces with smooth new materials. The soft colour palette is grounded by the black that runs from the boldly painted building facades to the original wooden staircase and beyond. Each space holds architectural treasures that Owen has collected over the 30 years he has been in business, along with striking art, mirrors, lighting and richly coloured velvet furnishings throughout.  Owen Pacey is the owner of Renaissance London, one of the foremost dealers, restorers and experts in antique fireplaces and other architectural pieces in East London.
