Synopsis
THE Architectes has been commissioned to work on the transformation of a 100sqm flat close to Place de la République in Paris. The aim was to transform an old-fashioned familial flat into a more contemporary loft-type flat. The first intervention was to demolish the partition between the two rooms facing the street, thus creating a living space of 50sqm. All the servant spaces (kitchen, bathrooms, toilets, dressing and storage) have been relocated in the centre of the flat in order to let the served spaces benefit from the maximum natural lighting. The partition between the two rooms facing the courtyard was replaced by a sliding wall. When opened, it creates one big 25sqm bedroom. When closed, it separates two smaller bedrooms. The original moldings have been kept. Floors and closet doors were made in light-shade oak wood.
