Synopsis
Michelle Mason took a gamble when she launched her design company five years ago. Not only did she leave a well-paid job at London Metropolitan University; she and her husband downsized from their spacious home in Bethnal Green, East London to a tiny one bedroom flat, (500 square foot/47 square meters), in nearby London Fields. ‘We wanted to reduce our mortgage, and it’s definitely been worth it,’ says Michelle. ‘I left my job when the credit crunch kicked off, but the business is really growing and I’ve just opened a shop with a friend too.’
