Synopsis
Kate Wood and her husband Tom bought this tiny cottage in an idyllic village near Cambridge 2 years ago. Kate has been running her vintage furniture and accessories shop 'Manon Interiors' in Cambridge, with her own style of interesting lighting and vintage furniture. The house was in great need of repair and decoration and although it had a wonderful, light and spacious kitchen extension the house was dark and gloomy. The position is exceptional with a deer park behind and the unusual view of two churches next to each other from the windows at the front. 'At night we hear the deer walking down the high street,' smiles Kate. Kate and Tom pulled everything out and started again, sanding all the floor boards upstairs, and renewing the downstairs with reclaimed wood. They wanted a contemporary, clear and minimal interior so chose a kitchen with clean lines, and painted the whole of the interior of the house white, then added their own style of shabby chic to bring it to life. Now they have a son, Wilfie, 18 months, Kate has changed her working life, and has closed the shop so she can be at home more. But her business is going from strength to strength with the launch of www.manoninteriors.co.uk where all her favourite vintage style can be bought online.
