Karen and Fraser Murdoch were so set on their dream location that they waited for two years for another house to come on the market after just missing out on one. ‘Three days before we were due to exchange the sale fell through as the owner changed his mind at the last minute! I had set my heart on living in this area as it is family friendly, green and the houses are a good size with well proportioned rooms.’ Karen says. Luckily two weeks later another house came on the market and it just happened to be next door. ‘I did have a few sleepless nights thinking we may lose this one too, but luckily everything went through smoothly. A few years later, our neighbour decided to sell up. I told my friend, who also loved the street, and she now lives there – so it all has worked out really well in the end!’

When it comes to decorating the house for Christmas, Karen has a clear idea. ‘My style is practical – this is definitely a family home and not a show home, and I decorate it to be welcoming rather than to impress guests. We have a real tree in the dining room and I accessorise the table with beautiful flowers and bright pink and red gingham ribbon. This will be our tenth Christmas here and Fraser and I usually spend the day in the kitchen preparing Christmas dinner with the open fire roaring, while the family arrives. This is a special time for our family and we all love relaxing at home.’
