Synopsis
Owners Karen and Peter Moore have had to endure not one but two refurbishments, their first ‘restoration’ was gutted in a house fire and they had to start all over again. Karen used local craftsmen to forge the features in the family home, they built everything from fireplaces to staircases.
Many of the fixtures and fittings Karen sourced from restoration yards and the conveniently local Newark Antiques Fair, where she eagerly snapped up vintage bargains to dress and decorate her home. She bought everything from mirrors to light fittings, beds, wardrobes and even lengths of French linen which she had made into comforters and cushions.
Karen is big on entertaining and Christmas celebrations start early on in December, carrying on into the New Year. Last year some close friends were to spend Christmas in Australia so, Karen held a big festive celebration at the beginning of the month so they didn’t feel they had missed out. With a magpie’s penchant for all things sparkly, Karen’s decorations are simply stylish, in white, glass, silver, sometimes with beading or glitter.
Karen adheres to tradition with a real Christmas tree and stockings at the foot of children and guest beds. Gifts are all sumptuously wrapped, tied up with satin ribbons, beckoning to be opened. The warmest of welcomes is assured.
Karen lives with husband Peter, 17 year old son Charlie and Maisy the golden Labrador.
