Synopsis
NO UK When we both took early retirement from our careers in marketing in 2010, we decided to move out of London. We began house-hunting around Yeovil, as Lawrence’s mother lives nearby. We wanted a property on the outskirts of a reasonable-sized town, within walking distance of a nice village pub. When we saw this house near Bridport, I fell in love with the garden. So despite the fact that the house needed a total makeover, we decided to go for it.

Once we’d made the move, we knew that family and friends would be visiting frequently, and there was a good-sized spare room off the entrance hall that we’d nicknamed the “conundrum” room, because we weren’t quite sure what to use it for. As it was slightly set apart from the main part of the house, it was ideal for a guest room. The only problem was, there was a huge stone buttress running all along one wall, which was a real eyesore.
