Synopsis
In a bid to leave the London rat race, Greg & Paula Patton moved to France for a year. ‘France was too quiet for us, but we didn’t want to move back to London permanently so we decided to rent our house out in France and move back to our house in Wimbledon, while we decided where to live’ says Paula. Some friends invited the couple down to Whitstable in Kent for the weekend, to look at some houses for themselves. Greg and Paula took a day trip to Broadstairs, to give their friends some time to themselves. They walked out of the car park and saw the house in an estate agents window. ‘We fell in love instantly and put in an offer the same day, before we had even seen the beach or town” smiles Paula. The house was a Victorian villa, on the end of a small terrace. ‘It was huge, compared to our house in London, with all its original features intact’ remembers Paula. Structurally, the house was sound, but the décor was tired “We wanted to retain as many of the original features as possible, but give it a modern touch” says Paula.
