Diana and Werner’s Dream Project

When Diana and Werner bought an old farm house situated in the centre of a small Dutch village, little did they know that Werner’s late grandfather had worked from the barn restoring antiques.

The barn is not only part of their home, complete with a rustic outside kitchen and terrace, but is also Werner’s workspace where he handcrafts furniture. Having enjoyed refurbishing their last house, this was a dream project for the couple as both the barn and house needed complete renovation. As the house itself dates back to 1905, they preserved all the original features including stained glass windows, ornate ceilings and antique fireplaces, as well as herringbone wood floors. Rather than opt for greys, Diana has used warm brown tones and a variety of textures throughout the interior, adding bronze, amber and gold for a touch of luxury. Blending vintage pieces with contemporary designs, such as the large bronze Sky Garden light by Marcel Wanders, the decor has the stylish mix of old and new. The house and barn connect via a formal Dutch garden for inside/outside living. Family life plays an important part in the design too, with clever interior schemes carried upstairs into their two young sons bedrooms and their very own treehouse outside.
