Synopsis
Waney-edged Douglas fir, placed side on and appearing like a set of fins, is incorporated either end of the barn appropriate for the coastal setting. Inside, the decor has a feel of timeless elegance contrasted with quirky features including a firemanís pole which runs from the mezzanine sleeping quarters to the central living space. The homeowners enlisted the help of interior designer, Willie Nickerson, to add modern additions to their collection of vintage pieces, such as the textural linen feature pendants that hang from the double-height ceilings. Poured concrete worktops with an integrated sink give an industrial feel to the space and are teamed with rustic oak cabinetry. The natural timber and rich green of the soft furnishings echo the trees, while frameless windows bring the tranquility and rural beauty of the outside into the interior.
