Synopsis
First impressions always count and the minute Cat and Gareth Rendell saw the handsome, double-fronted villa with its stained-glass porch, they knew they had to view it. ‘We were living in Kingston-upon-Thames at the time but we’d started a family and were looking to move out of London,’ says Cat, who, before becoming a mum to Max, and baby James, worked for an interior and graphic design company and now does interior design consultancy. ‘We started looking along the south coast and because Southsea is on the train-line to London and we liked the architecture, we started off there.’ They first saw the house on the internet and, says Cat; ‘Loved it straight away.’ They guessed there would be a lot of work to do but: ‘We adored the extra-deep bay windows and the ceiling height and proportions of the rooms, and, of course, the wonderful porch.’
