Synopsis
A condemned chalet bungalow due for demolition came with the south facing site which covers more than an acre but most importantly planning permission for a replacement had already been obtained. The couple had a tight budget but calculated that by doing almost all of the work themselves they could realize their design. The original plan given consent was not to their taste but after working carefully on their own proposal it was accepted without comment. The low maintenance, energy efficient design means that no heating is required and their energy costs are impressively low. Their spacious, light filled home is a tribute to their design skills as well as their practical abilities in building and fitting out the project.
