Synopsis
‘It took me a long time to get over my “everything needs to be hidden away” obsession’, confesses Mark Stobbs, publisher of the smart Middle Eastern magazine Brown Book, and one half of the duo behind the stylish renovation of this London flat. Mark’s partner, interior designer Andrew Lock, agrees that they started out on two completely different sides of the style fence, with Mark’s ‘plain and minimal’ tendencies coming up against Andrew’s more eclectic approach. The solution? Give it time. The pair bought the house as a wreck in 2007 and lived in it for two years before making any structural or stylistic decisions about how they wanted it to work. ‘We wanted to get a feel for the house and figure out how to use the space, so we took our time, went through a year of planning and then pretty much moved every room in the whole place!’ says Andrew.
