The Passionate Collector
The first thing you noticed in Bridget Schwartz's Oakland, California, apartment is its playful mix of colors. The living room is painted lavender, the dining room mint green, and the bedroom a rosy pink. All are decorated with vibrant furnishings.

A burled-wood bar by midcentury-modern master  designer Milo Baughman makes a dramatic statement, while connecting the living and dining rooms. A chaise lounge, upholstered in fabric from Jaipur, and a desk provide a den-like space for working and relaxing. Vintage metal-frame chairs have been reupholstered in green velvet and ikat fabric. A mid-century modern tulip tape sits under and Italian chandelier. In the hallway, a rare1960s poster, titled Silver and turquoise candlesticks perch on a carved sideboard Bridget brought back from a trip to Goa in western India. Carved African mask and a quirky painted portrait hang over a continental bombé dresser. A pair of 1980s mohair chairs stands out against the lavender walls. A vintage Marimenko rose-pattern pillow adds a bold contrast to the dark blue chair. A brass mushroom lamp sits atop a chinoiserie chest used as a bedside table and for storage. An armoire carved and pained in India provides a much-needed closet In Bridget's 800-square-foot home. To keep things interesting, Bridget regularly rotates her wall art. The Chinese bamboo armoire is covered with an Oriental print. To balance the lavender walls and yellow sofa, Bridget uses rich blues and dark reds.

Feeling Groovy
This Tennessee cottage combines living space and free-spirited guest quarters under one roof.

No two pillows match, yet the overall living room has has a fine gypsy vibe. Homeowners Casey and Savannah, best friends and bloggers, with their pup Hazel. Hung from the ceiling, white mesh fabric and vintage fringed shawls create a canopy in the guest bedroom. Chairs reupholstered with a banana leaf fabric keep company to a refinished thrift store table. A portrait of singer Stevie Nicks breaks up the graphic wallpaper. The ceramic chieftain head was just too good to pass up. A mandala tapestry and star light have a bohemian vibe. The remodeled kitchen now offers a breakfast nook. A large-scale leafy duvet set and a low rattan table bring a a tropical vibe to the bedroom. A tapestry, gauzy fabric and a star light fixture create dreamy canopy. The living room features an original wood burning fireplace.Using a piece of plywood and black tape, Savannah channeled a Navarho when artwork. Blue and green accessories set the tone for the bedroom. Against a black wall, a tiger-maple hutch takes on a jewel-like glow. A tiered hanging vegetable basket is repurposed as a plant holder.

Artist in Residence
Noted tatie designer Jennifer Paganelli turns the rooms of her Connecticut farmhouse into sweet, sensational eye candy!

In vases and on textiles, flowers grace Jennifer's rooms. Five years after they moved in, Jennifer and Peter renovated to open up the cramped kitchen. Jennifer's own fabric decorate even space of her home.  In the master bedroom, tone-on-tone damasks offerS a soft layer without detracting from the showcase fabrics. Textile designer Jennifer Paganelli and her best friend. Jennifer works with colors three have a similar energy level––the same brightness.  Playful accents join fabrics in pumped up pastels. Sunny yellow walls wrap it all up. Pretty details, like the lampshade and vase are always part of Jennifer's decorating touches. To top off a curvy French headboard, Jennifer created a garden inspired canopy by hanging a double-sided fabric panel over a ceiling mounted, 18-inch pole. White walls and trim, along with white lacquered vintage furniture, set the stage for fabrics with classic motifs and saturated  color. Much of the home’s art is by Pennsylvania German folk artist Barbara Strawser. Her art enhances watercolors that blend with— and sometimes inspire—a room’s palette. Patterns and colors unite harmoniously. Jennifer and her daughter Katie.

Nesting in Nantucket
With primary living spaces on the second floor, this near-the- beach house ensures views, sunlight and smiles.

Colors and accessories keep the coastal theme present. The couple loved the kitchen’s ocean view and the fact that no remodeling was needed—only a few appliance updates.  Dining area blues repeat from the still life painting. In the cozy living room, a wood burning fireplace provides warmth on chilly days. A glass-tiles mirror picks up the colors found in the surrounding elements .  A copper folk art whale, which the couple playfully refers to as Horatio Hornblower, keeps watch over the living room.  A seagrass rug serves as a textural anchor for the seating area, which is rounded out with a vintage rocker  Tucked under the eaves, the master bedroom features a vintage wood trunk that came with the house. A painting by local artist David Lazarus inspired the blues and greens used throughout the house. Frosted glass in oceanic colors evoke the coastal setting.

Good Vibrations
Eclectic finds and a flair for the exotic give a Gulf Coast cottage its well-travelled allure.

Homeowner Nina and her rescued dog and BFF Yeshi. Fresh flowers and fruit are staples of Nina’s lifestyle. A streamlined bench offers instant and practical storage for a small space. The floor is painted a cerulean blue to further enhance the kitchen’s friendly laid-back style. Nina’s knack for mixing patterns and textures is evident on the open shelves.  Nina chose a soothing palette and artwork that are gentle on the eye and psyche. A cut-glass aqua lantern adds a touch of intrigue and complements the color scheme. A silver bowl reflects the intricate embroideries of a sari layered over the tablecloth. A vintage chair makes a stylish spot for towels and a natural sponge Nina turned the enclosed porch into a cozy sitting room complete with a sofa draped in gauzy netting. Nina's soulful personality comes through in spaces with a calming and welcoming energy.
The weathered dining room table is given a face-lift with an embroidered sari laid atop a white cotton sheet.

Island Gem
An array of whimsical furnishings, dazzling hues and lively patterns make up the prefect Florida beach retreat.

From the posts to the wood top and trim salvaged elements were united to create the unique island. An irons and porcelain chandelier crowns the master bedroom. A surf shack motif offers a lighthearted blueprint for fun and affordable ideas. Coastal motifs are always part of the decor at the beach house. Yellow walls  were just the starting point in the living room’s color palette. A spectrum of watery shades sparkle on the ceiling, woodwork, coffee table and rug. A modern chest of drawers is transformed into a antique with a multi-layers of paint, paisley swirls, and sunburst motifs. Rw wood stools sport a variety of colors and carved the the children initials. Folding chairs are upholstered in a myriad of tribal patterns. A barely there glass shower and a window let in the view to the beach. Four screen doors and a carved wooden beam were the starting point for the master bath. Hand painted by a local artist, this table is a real catch. Soft hues get a boost from a colorful duvet. The staircase leading to the upstairs bedrooms was outfitted with a rainbow of tiles, custom woodwork and coastal art.

Colourful Tide
Lollipop hues give this tiny seaside retreat the appeal of a found treasure chest.

The interiors boast a kaleidoscope of patterns and color shifts. Light-toned ceilings soften the brilliant shades and visually raise the height. Groupings in the same color families keep the vibrant palette in focus. Red accents in the enamel-top nightstand and striped floor amp up the visual heat. A shell covered chandelier pays tribute to the coastal location. In a small home, everything must feed a need but that doesn’t mean they can’t also be pretty, like these colorful enamel dishes or brightly color glassware. Flea market pieces found on the island add local flavor. A antique bench functions as a coffee table. Multicolor glass candle jars stay in tune with the overall color scheme. Raspberry shades brighten both the dining room wall and kitchen floor for design continuity. Color and whimsy liven up a weathered vintage table. Yellow walls and ceiling wrap the bed and bath suite in sunshine. On the door to the den bold aqua and bright yellow accents contrast with the lobster-hued wall and the mustard color of the floor. From the mid-1700s to the late 1830s, Nantucket was the whaling capital of the world. Showcasing Herman Melville’s Moby Dick couldn’t be more à propos. The sitting room doubles as a guest room and is furnished with a sleeper sofa dressed in a playful patchwork of fabrics.

Patterns of Behaviour
Its' all in a day's work for a decorative artist who fills her home with colorful stencil projects and global goods.

A century-old European cabinet with the original finish is given pride of place in the living room. Gold paint unifies a flea market frame and a new letter H one a reclaimed mantel. Salvaged columns ad visual interest and height. Shades of blues and greens enliven the living room. A chalkboard keeps track of artistic projects. A beaded horse keeps watch over a handmade platter and glass floats. An oversize tassel hangs over a vintage Kantha throw. A visit to the palace of Versailles inspired this work of art glass. A mix of linens and objects from far-away-lands give the guest room a carefree caravan vibe. Necklaces, pottery, and a bottle from Marrakech sum up Debbie's local-meets-global style. A large cabinet holds Debbie's glass art and features more stencil work. Teal velvet adds panache to a vintage wicker armchair. The silver sequin basket was found on a trip to Marrakech. An Egyptian crystal chandelier unites with a vintage door and garden chair. A playful mix of textiles in a limited but effective color way of blues and greens.

Tropical Oasis
Withs colourful exterior, Key West-style architecture and it's tropical foliage, it's hard to miss the hideaway of East Coast designer and now full-time Florida resident Michele Mancini.

Hula figurines and tropical flowers and fabrics recall Havana and Hawaii. Antique frames showcase swatches of Michele's nostalgic designs. With its fruit-color walls and trim the kitchen sizzles The key to Michael's successful decorating strategy lies in her well-balanced imaginative arrangements, McCoy vases hold greenery collected from the garden. The narrow kitchen offers a convenient breakfast bar \. Unique lamps, animal prints and floral textiles give the living room its cozy tropical feel. 
Only the bedroom shows more restraint with its subdued palette.

Past Perfect
No detail was too small to bring a neglected 1924 Craftsman bungalow back to life as a celebration of the past and a promising future.

A vintage bedspread won an iron bed . Accessories in coordinated colors and materials. Starfish and shells bring the coastal location in. Furniture legs  give the center island the look of freestanding furniture. A pair of ottomans stand in as a coffee table. Similar textures  and colors work well together. Pastel artwork tempers qua items. A vintage fireplace gets a modern makeover. A chandelier with drop crystals bring in some bling, Starfruit garnish adds Florida flavor. Old heart pine flooring runs throughout the house A country French antique dresser is retrofitted as a vanity. Aqua accents speak of waterside location.
