Synopsis
Francesca Reed and her husband Peter had tired of their busy life in London and so started to search for a new home in the country. They didn’t have a specific type of house or location in mind and their search was proving fruitless. In the winter of 2011 they decided to halt their property plans and took a three-month sabbatical travelling across India. They had limited internet access but received an email from a buying agent with details of Kentlands; a unique looking property right on the beach in Sandwich Bay, Kent. With three gardens, an enviable location right by the sea, and two additional cottages, Kentlands was worlds apart from their warehouse flat in London’s Borough Market. They decided to let fate be their guide and if the house was still available when they returned home, they would make it their own. They did, and completed the purchase in February 2012. Francesca recalls, ‘It started snowing as we arrived and we spent a memorably cold night huddled together on a blow-up mattress with no duvet and no heating!’
