Synopsis
‘The word cottage is surrounded by a rosy glow…we exhale a sigh of relaxation: a cottage means escapism and nostalgia.’
So writes the author of Perfect English Cottage, one of the ‘interiors’ books Monica Gibb sells in her Edinburgh shops called The Bay Tree Company. The Bay Tree is also the name this reluctant city dweller chose for the property she bought in 2008 in a rural Perthshire hamlet. A Scottish rather than English cottage then – but one nonetheless that could grace any toffee tin. And one that is more than perfect.
