Miami-based decorator Jenny Peters has a true passion for old houses, in particular the Mediterranean Revival villas that can be found locally, and loves to restore them to their former glory - but in a way that suits a more modern way of life. "During the real estate boom of the early 20th century, many wealthy land speculators and northern 'snowbirds' - that's people who prefer to spend the colder months of the year in warmer climes - built their Spanish-style villas in Florida," she explains.
"My neighbourhood, Coconut Grove, which is a few miles south of downtown Miami and the South Beach district, was just one of the areas where these prosperous developers created a verdant fantasy to rival the European rivieras. The beautiful 1920s properties sit back from the road, nestled amongst lushly landscaped grounds, and it's got a wonderful feeling of quiet and privacy."
