London-based interior designer Annelis Winter says she was skiing almost as soon as she could walk. ‘I was brought up in a ski resort,’ she says. ‘So winter sports are a way of life for me. I wanted our four children, now aged between 11 and 19, to be brought up the same way.’
Annelis and her banker husband Eirik started looking for a traditional chalet in the Swiss ski village of Verbier seven years ago, but were tempted by seeing the plans for a new wooden house that was to be built close to the ski runs, and within walking distance of the night life and shopping. The house took just 18 months to complete and the family were spending the first of many winter holidays there by Christmas 2005.
