It’s no surprise that old rectories make wonderful family homes. Country parsons were generally men of culture and standing and those with private means often built themselves a beautiful house within walking distance of their church. Designed to accommodate growing families and a modest number of servants, these houses were central to village life. Entrance halls were spacious so that parishioners could be seated as they waited to see the rector and reception rooms used for private entertaining as well as church business were always of a reasonable size.
