Synopsis
Living in a conservation area has its advantages: your neighbours can’t go customising their porches or putting in plastic windows or adding extensions that aren’t in keeping with the period. But then, neither can you. Julia Silverman and her husband Dan discovered just how tricky it can be to get planning permission in a conservation area, but, having long dreamed of building their own house, they persisted, none the less, and three years after first submitting their application, it was finally granted.
